Oh No!! Not again?! It’s a familiar chant around the dinner table. Here we go again. Is it going to be a move to another city or just to another neighbourhood? Your mind races as the news is broken and furtive looks are cast about the table. All you can think of are the boxes and lists and packing and friends and oh..so many things. This scene plays out usually before the services of a real estate agent even enter in to the picture. This common scene occurred in our house many times and from these early lessons to a career in real estate, I’ve found a few tricks of the trade to make it a bit easier for all concerned. Some people find moving a breeze; most people suffer some degree of stress. A real estate professional can help alleviate that stress. If your move is across town or across province/country a good agent will try to offer contacts for you to help make the transition a smooth one.
The sooner you call someone in to help the better. A professional can help get things ready to go. It’s not complicated but sometimes you can lose your head around the simplest matters. Having someone looking at your house and belongings from an unbiased point of view can have you breathing a sigh of relief.
An off season move can save you $$$ and aggravation if it’s not tied to school year or fiscal business year end restructuring. The end of June is “the Christmas” of the moving industry. If you can move ANY other time of the year even by a few weeks it would be better. There is a process to the entire relocation that can make everything seem like clockwork. Before you call the movers it’s a good idea after you contact your realtor to get in touch with mortgage professional. If you use the bank or an independent mortgage broker, that first step can save you thousands! We work together to start down the road to a new house. It is VERY important to find out exactly how much you owe, any penalties or requirements/restrictions to transferring the mortgage, and how much you can comfortably afford on the next home.
