Make a Change for 2011

January 4, 2011

The Homestretch is within your view! There is a rainbow before me… Skies above can be stormy but what a difference a day makes….. And the difference is you……

Don’t you just love this time of year?  Is it the glitz, the glam, the family, the presents, the food, the celebration of our Lord’s birth or is it something else that it signifies to you? All of this and the fact that we get to start over every 365 days… such a gift… Our guaranteed Christmas gift

Truth is, you can start over every day if you wish. You have the choice to reinvent yourself every fresh new day, so why is it that many of us keep going on the path we are on simply because we think we must….  You know the old saying “you made your bed, now lie in it…”  Has that saying become part of your unconscious makeup? Do you repeat it to yourself, either knowingly or unconsciously like a mantra?

Could this explain why many of us stay on a path that we really don’t want to be on anymore or one that feels comfortable… hmmm is it the devil we know vs. the devil we don’t…..  Why do we stay in relationships that don’t work for us believing that if we just work harder at it things will be rosy? Why do we continue to work at a job that makes us sick… yes sick… stress kills… When you force yourself to go to a place for 8 hours a day and do a job you dislike, whether you know it or not you are stressing yourself out!  So why will we take our health for granted and believe that one day when we retire all the stress we piled on will just disappear and we will be 100% again?

Truths about Overwhelm and Stress

November 12, 2010

Overwhelm Stress and Perception of Time

How many times do you say you are overwhelmed or stressed out in a day?

How many times do you hear others say they are overwhelmed or stressed?

How many times a day do you think it – do you allow yourself to acknowledge it?

Truth is that when we acknowledge and accept “overwhelm” as our state of being we are naturally stressed.  The minute we decide that we are overwhelmed our whole world, our lives, our bodies and everything we need to do become too heavy to bear.

Overwhelm is a feeling just like happy or sad.  We feel overwhelmed and once we do – we start to think in negative terms.  “I don’t have enough time to get everything I need done completed, I am so overwhelmed.”

Procrastination becomes a precipitator to overwhelm and stress… those that tend to procrastinate are in a constant state of overwhelm. They accept this as their way of being.  Experts tell us, physical, mental and emotional stress affects our bodies in multiple ways…. We are damaging our bodies, aging quicker and yes breaking down our own valuable immune systems for the sake of what?

You are in overwhelm when you agree you are in overwhelm… If you choose to live in a stressful state of being ongoing your entire existence is overwhelmed.

My belief is that you choose to feel overwhelmed or not. You choose to go about your life enjoying all the challenges, ups and downs or you choose to view them as a chore or something on that preverbal list that has to be done!

When I agree to be overwhelmed even the smallest decision is too much for me and I engage my avoidance mechanism of not doing anything.  I retreat and do nothing at all.  The fear of making the wrong decision takes over and I pull a Scarlett O’Hara of “I won’t think about this right now, tomorrow is another day, ” truth is I just keep putting it off in hopes it will just go away.

The opposite is also true, when I choose to feel in control, happy and calm most decisions are really small potatoes in my day.  The days I wake up choosing to be happy, calm and on purpose the day falls into place just the way I want it to… Does that mean that nothing goes wrong, absolutely not, but for the most part my reaction to those blips in my day is less stressful?  When I set my intention to be open to receive all good things, I pay more attention to my blessings and overwhelm doesn’t exist.

Our reaction to any situation determines how we feel about it – calm or overwhelm… your choice!

That’s Inspiration…

October 14, 2010

Author Quote of the Day:

“On this journey of mine, I have allowed myself to break promises to the most important person in my life, to sometimes treat her worse then I would treat an enemy, to talk her down and to lie to her.  She has been my biggest supporter and my worst critic.  Today, I am able to say that I love her more then anyone in my life – she is me!”
