Get uncomfortable – not likely! What do you mean, don’t we spend most of our time trying to “make ourselves comfortable? “Make yourself comfortable” – isn’t that what the doctor says as he is about to do your yearly pap test, or what the receptionist says as you are ushered into a room for a job interview or how about the loans officer as they offer you a seat to discuss your credit application? Comfort? What in the world is that? Since many times during a day we are offered the opportunity to make ourselves comfortable one would think we spend most of our days uncomfortable! The reverse is actually the truth….. read on……
I was born in 1963 and started on a “wake up journey” to my amazing life in 1994. Before that I was going through the motions of “I am supposed to” just as my mother did, her mother did and her mother did before her. I remember clearly it being 1994 because I found my first self-help book and it was then that my life started to get uncomfortable. Yes it’s true – my so called comfortable bubble I was living in got its first pin prick in it!
I believe today would have been very different for me if I hadn’t started getting uncomfortable in what I was accepting as my path. I remember laying in bed with my husband one night in my late 20’s discussing the fact that we didn’t need another thing, we were all good with the way we were right then. Imagine thinking you don’t even need to grow! I started to question everything about myself, my beliefs, why someone told me this or that, how I felt about it and the fact that I was waking up to massive opportunities beyond what I was doing.
I am an entrepreneur and until 2002 I didn’t make any steps towards living it! I stayed in a comfortable little job collecting my nice little paycheque, coming home living my nice little comfortable life with my husband and sons. The entire time I was a bear, inside I felt empty, unfulfilled and full of self-doubt and worse self-loathing! The worse part was – I didn’t even know why?
I was blessed to have parents who believed in me from the day I could walk and talk and pushed me to do what they knew I was capable of…Now, I realize you were not blessed to have my parents so I will share with you the key ingredients that I know will work to help you live your great big life.
- Journal! Dig down deep inside, under others opinions, your own self-judgements and find out what you really want to do, who is that girl buried in there, what does she believe in?
- Understand you have a choice – really understand that everything you do is a choice; everyone you associate with is a choice. Everything in your life is a choice, choose what makes YOU happy!
- Read books that inspire you, listen to CD’s of inspiration to motivate yourself to live your dreams!
- Turn your dimmer switch up! Never allow your light to be extinguished to let someone else’s shine brighter!
- Seek out other passionate people living their dreams – learn from them, listen to their stories, ask for assistance, share your dreams with those that understand and will encourage you! Learn from experience!
- GET UNCOMFORTABLE! Accepting mediocrity is not for you! Believe you deserve your dreams to become reality! Step outside that self-induced comfort zone and make it happen!
Make today a POWErful Day!
